Steel wire is made in the form of cord or thread from various types of metal, as well as composite materials. It is used in manufacture of cables, ropes, electrodes, electrical wires, springs etc. Enterprises produce wire with section in the form of circle, oval, hexagon, trapezium or square. How the steel wire is manufactured

Low carbon metal wire BP-1 of round cross-section is manufactured at the metal base from rolled wire, pretreated by cold drawing. The process of drawing is metal processing by pressure and consists in gradual pulling of the semi-finished metal part through drawing machine to reduce its cross-section.

After improvement of wire quality the annealing is made - heat treatment, which increases flexibility and ductility of steel without loss of mechanical strength. For protection against corrosion and harmful environmental effect zinc coating can be applied on the wire.
Rust deposits, small scratches and dents are allowed on the wire surface. The depth of defects should not exceed dimension equal to half of the diameter, and presence of splits, deep cracks and tears is not allowed.

Application

Wire BP-1 corresponds to GOST 6727-80 and is used in manufacture of reinforced concrete structures, for reinforcing of foundations and floor structures, frames from reinforcing rods. Due to grooved surface it provides good adhesion to concrete. Besides, wire of different section is used for:
• manufacture of metal meshes;
• arrangement of trellis in farms engaged in hops and grapes cultivation, as well as for binding of other agricultural crops;
• binding of oversized goods and metal products;
• manufacture of nails, bolts, screws;
• handles for buckets, strings for musical instruments;
• manufacture of barbed wire;
• domestic use.

Differences between wire and rolled wire

Rolled wire is a bar with round section of diameter from 5 to 10 mm, manufactured by hot rolling on drawing mill. It is used as semi-finished metal part for manufacture of wire and rebar in production of reinforced concrete structures. Main difference between rolled wire and wire is that the rod is semi-finished metal part for manufacture of other products, and wire is ready-to-use material. Besides, rolled wire is supplied in coils or in the form of rod, and wire is sold in reels or coils.
